The automotive service manager is responsible for the overall operation of the store, including managing and supporting the Shop Foreman, Service Advisors, and other support staff. General duties include daily operations management, serving customers, supporting direct reports in their personal and professional development, staffing the location, managing profitability of sales, ensuring smooth facility operations, maintaining a clean and organized work environment, and overseeing project management at the location.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create an exceptional experience for team members to thrive by fostering engagement, encouraging solutions, and facilitating effective communication.
- Understand, track, and analyze production and sales metrics.
- Develop, implement, and communicate a production plan based on capacity and workflow.
- Ensure proper communication channels are maintained between sales and production staff.
- Assist and empower the Service Advisor team to meet goals and performance metrics.
- As the automotive service manager, take ownership of gross profit by managing parts and labor margins, as well as inventory control.
- Monitor total shop productivity and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure proper staffing and coverage through effective recruitment and scheduling.
- Interview and build a pipeline of future employees.
- Provide continuous training and career development for all team members.
- Hire, train, and lead location staff with a focus on company culture and cohesion.
- Maintain a professional personal image and uphold location standards.
- Oversee loaner vehicle cleanliness, safety, and readiness for customers.
- Manage inventory, building supplies, and operational resources.
Qualifications & Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of the automotive industry and service operations.
- Proven leadership experience, ideally as an automotive service manager or in a similar role.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated with a high level of energy and the ability to set priorities.
